![]() ![]() Sutton has served on the faculties of Columbia University, Pratt Institute, the University of Cincinnati, the University of Michigan, and the University of Washington. In addition to being a distinguished visiting professor of architecture at Parsons School of Design, Dr. Her books include When Ivory Towers Were Black: A Story about Race in America's Cities and Universities (2017) and the forthcoming, Pedagogy of a Beloved Commons: Pursuing Democracy’s Promise through Place-Based Activism, narrating America's continuing struggle for racial justice. Sharon Egretta Sutton, FAIA, is a citizen architect and scholar who promotes cultural inclusivity in her profession and in the populations it serves. Sarah is the AIA Colorado President after serving as the AIA Colorado West Director. ![]() R+B frequently provides feedback to the City of Aspen on land use regulation. Sarah helped rewrite the Aspen Historic Preservation Commission guidelines and the Aspen Commercial Design Guidelines. She served as Chair of the City of Aspen’s Historic Preservation Commission and is involved with multiple non-profits. Sarah leads the studios in participating and managing all phases of the design process, including client relations and proposals, project programming, conceptual design, design development, architecture and interior design, project budgeting, construction documentation, and contract administration. In addition, she is a highly respected colleague in the design community and among clients. She is the champion of R+B’s design philosophy and rigorous quality control standards and a leader to her design staff. She is also on the AIA Public Awareness Committee. At the national level, for 2023-2025, Kathy is the AIA Arizona representative on the AIA Strategic Council. Her focus was on strengthening the ways that we can make connections with each other and the communities we serve, as well as supporting the ways that we can take action. In 2022, Kathy was AIA Arizona President. ![]() Her palette is material authenticity, proportion, light, shadow, reflection, and the interplay of view and movement framing foregrounds and backgrounds, connecting inside and out.
